Project UNION - MedieInfo MAX

MedieInfo MAX is a multimedia project for the 3.5” ESP32-S3 capacitive
touch display JC3248W535EN.

The project combines a touch display, SD card and audio output in one
compact unit. Media and system settings are handled through the familiar
Project UNION web configuration.

Hardware

Required:

-   Guition JC3248W535EN
    -   ESP32-S3
    -   3.5” 320 x 480 capacitive touch display
    -   MicroSD card slot
-   8 ohm loudspeaker
-   MicroSD card
-   USB-C power supply/cable

Optional:

-   3.7 V LiPo battery with suitable 2-pin 1.25 mm connector

IMPORTANT: Always check battery connector polarity before connecting a
LiPo battery. Connectors with the same physical size do not necessarily
use the same polarity.

Arduino IDE

MedieInfo MAX has been developed and tested with a specific Arduino
environment.

Important components include:

-   Espressif ESP32 board package version 3.3.11
-   Project UNION Core 0.3.6
-   ESP32-audioI2S version 3.0.12 supplied with the JC3248W535EN
    manufacturer download

Do not update these components without testing. Newer versions may
introduce incompatibilities.

Manufacturer files

The JC3248W535EN manufacturer download contains the documentation,
examples and libraries required for the display.

The ESP32-audioI2S-3.0.12 library used by MedieInfo MAX is taken from
this package and copied to the Arduino libraries folder.

SD card and media

Media files are stored on the MicroSD card and can be managed from the
MedieInfo MAX web interface.

For best compatibility, use a properly formatted SD card. During
development, cards formatted using a full format proved more reliable
than cards prepared only with Windows “Quick Format”.

Video for the ESP32 display must be converted to the format used by
MedieInfo MAX. The Project UNION converter can prepare video and
associated audio files for the project.

First start

After programming the ESP32-S3, configure the unit through the Project
UNION web configuration.

Configure WiFi first and then use the web interface to configure media,
MQTT, display and system settings as required.

Notes

This project was developed specifically for the JC3248W535EN hardware.
Other 3.5” ESP32-S3 displays may look similar but can use different
display controllers, touch controllers and GPIO assignments and are
therefore not necessarily compatible.
